We are so excited to announce that Vizio Optic has won the Wicked Local Reader’s Choice Award for #1 Optical Shop in Brookline!
This is our second year in a row earning this title from Wicked Local! It’s all thanks to you, our readers, customers, and friends who keep coming back to us time and again. Our team is proud to be recognized within the local community by the Reader’s Choice Awards and are grateful to those who share their wonderful experiences in their reviews to let others know about our shop. Your kind words make our service much more meaningful.
Vizio Optic would also like to congratulate Coolidge Corner Opticians and Lenscrafters in Brookline for their honorable mentions. We are thrilled to be in the company of other local businesses highly regarded for their excellence in the optical world.
Did you know in addition to our selection of unique designer eyewear, we also offer eye exams? Our optometrists – owner Dr. Galina Rabkin and Dr. Mary-Ann Zappala – provide thorough optical exams to diagnose and monitor your eye health. If you are in the area and would like to make an appointment, please call us at 617-734-7171.
In January and February, Wicked Local published ballots in their newspapers and online for readers to vote on their favorite local businesses in more than 75 categories. Readers from the Greater Boston area cast their votes, and results were calculated by an independent firm and provided to Wicked Local.
Many people like to say that your eyes are the windows to your soul, but we like to think that your eyeglasses offer the real clues to your personality. Whether you’re going for a professional look or a way to show off your bold and bright style, there is definitely something for you at Vizio Optic. There’s no time like the present to find the best way to express yourselves, so when Mr. and Mrs. Derek Schmidt came in looking for some designer glasses to do just that, we were excited to help them start fresh together with a whole new look.
Derek is wearing a pair of Prodesign eyeglasses in style 6604. This rectangular frame flatters his face shape and helps keep his look balanced, and the tortoise coloring of the frame is classic and forever in style. This particular model is made with multiple materials, including acetate to create the glossy front rims, and stainless steel along the temples for strength. Its silicone nose pads let the frame sit comfortably as well.
Prodesign 6604 eyeglasses, accented with two silver squares in each corner, are also available in black, black-to-clear gradient, and light brown.
Mrs. Schmidt chose a pair of CHANEL 3233Q eyeglasses, a vibrant frame that stands out beautifully on her. The oval acetate frame is colored in bold blue, with matching calfskin temples embellished with the signature CC logo in white. The 3233Q model comes in red, solid black, black with white temples, and tortoise with solid brown temples.
What do you think? Don’t they look great?
Let’s take a moment to appreciate some art today, shall we? Introducing Eye DC eyeglasses, frames from a French brand that are innovative, creative, weird and wonderful. Their collections involve a lot of intricate metalwork and double-front frames that give you a truly unique appearance. Above is a photo we posted on Instagram showing three new styles available at Vizio Optic (are you following us?).
Beginning with innovation, take a look at the frame on the left side, style V845. This model has a thin bottom rim and a dramatically flared brow, and also features a triple-hinged temple unlike anything you’ve ever seen on a pair of designer glasses. The thoughtful design shows just how creative Eye DC can be.
At the bottom, the acetate frame (style E211) uses a classic rectangular silhouette and pumps up the color with a blast of red, which becomes bold and intense as soon as the light hits the transparent plastic. The little bit of flare along the brow’s edges give the E211 a slight retro feel.
Our personal favorite, the round frame at the top (style V789) is where the marvelous metalwork begins. Two laser-cut front rims are layered to create a fantastic illusion of depth. This is the perfect frame for those who appreciate a true work of art and don’t mind being the center of attention.
Eye DC eyewear is currently only available in our Brookline store and will be online in the future. You may, however, purchase these frames via phone by calling 866-411-9428.
Note: To avoid any confusion, Eye DC glasses are unrelated to their fellow French brand Vue dc.
These days, most companies are trying to find a way to go green in some aspect. Whether it’s going paperless, cleaning up manufacturing processes or other methods, we commend businesses on making their environmental impact a priority – and now, the concerns are moving into the eyewear industry. Last year, we showed you some great Studio FB eyeglasses that were made of 20 perecent wood fibers. This year, we are happy to bring you biodegradable eyeglasses from ProDesign Eyewear made of 80 percent cotton.
The Danish brand has turned their focus to sustainable development, creating new designer eyeglasses with biodegradable acetate material, their production requiring a gentle process. Comparing some frames to the beautiful and heavy wood of a cigar box, ProDesign explains its inspiration is drawn from “the desire to create a high fashion, stylish and intelligent look, designed for the urban, environmentally conscious female and male. [The natural look is] a trend that contains artsy, heavy retro shapes with depth and weight, but in a highly clean and classic way.”
Frames are available in light and dark earthy shades to create a “dynamic forest look.”

We’re happy to answer your questions about this cool new line and hope you can spread the word! Sustainable development is important, and we want everyone to know what a wonderful idea ProDesign has come up with this year!
Oliver Goldsmith was a true artist and a magnificent observer, taking in all that he saw and letting it fuel his work. His designer sunglasses were inspired by the most beautiful things around him – especially beautiful faces and places. As for faces, we’ve all seen his frames adorned by and for Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren and more, but he also created frames that were odes to his home of London.
Above, one of our customers wears Oliver Goldsmith Berwick sunglasses, which was designed in 1979 and named after a street in the capital city where his favorite pub, the Berwick arms, was located. Back in the ’80s when the brand was an official outfitter for the Royal Family, this particular pair was given to Prince Charles. His then wife, Princess Diana, decided to enjoy them herself and was famously seen wearing them on the cover of Tatler magazine in 1985, creating a surge in its popularity.
The color our friend is wearing is Electric Tortoise, which features a tortoise frame complemented by blue details throughout, most prominently on the stripes that detail the bridge and brow. Berwick is also available in black and white, crystal sapphire, black quartz, white quartz, and black raspberry. We love the distinctively retro design with its plastic aviator silhouette and keyhole bridge. The blue is complementary and looks fantastic when hit by the sun.
Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses have been worn by many icons over the years and each have an intriguing story behind their creation. Head over to VizioOptic.com to explore our selection of ICONS shades and pick up a pair of your own!
