This past weekend was our annual CHANEL Private Fitting Event, something we look forward to every spring! The Vizio Optic team welcomed many customers in the Greater Boston area to enjoy a look at the Prestige collection of CHANEL eyeglasses and sunglasses, along with new styles for 2012. We had a great time, and visitors got to enjoy delicious chocolates from our Brookline neighbor Serenade Chocolatier while they listened to live jazz and tried on some brand new frames. Here are the top sellers from our spring show:
CHANEL 3234 eyeglasses stray a bit from the brand’s typical classic looks – bright colors are huge this season and CHANEL is getting in on the trend by offering a few new hues like this stunning red. The newer colors were a hit at the show!
Another popular style at the event was CHANEL 3228Q eyeglasses in tortoise. Our customers were enamored by the lambskin quilted leather on the temple – a subtle detail that sets it apart from other designer glasses. This style also features a small signature logo in each corner in gold.
When it came to the shades, CHANEL 5225Q sunglasses were a success. The matte finish of the frame is subtle and elegant. The oversized frames feature the quilted pattern on the arm pieces with a black-lacquered CC logo, and also polarized lenses for the ultimate protection against the sun.

If you’re gearing up for summer and looking for the perfect pair of aviator sunglasses, consider purchasing a pair with mirrored lenses. Not only do these shades offer the ultimate optical precision and protection, but the full mirror treatment gives you the utmost privacy, as it is virtually impossible to see your eyes from the other side.
Mosley Tribes Dorset sunglasses are a great unisex pair. These designer sunglasses are butterfly shaped to flatter square faces, as its angles help balance out wider facial features. If you’re opting for these mirrored lenses, an anti-reflective treatment on the inner surface is recommended to reduce glare and provide the best sight.
CHANEL 4179 sunglasses are another great option. These frames feature a classic aviator shape, with flat metal arms that are embellished with the brand’s signature logo. The mirror layer on the lenses also helps to avoid scratches, such as when you clean them without a microfiber cloth.
Another excellent choice is a pair of Ray Ban Large Metal Aviator 3025 sunglasses, just one of the many Ray Ban sunglasses that come with the mirrored treatment. The dark lenses help absorb light and reduce glare, which is best for those who plan on spending plenty of time outdoors this summer, especially those who are heading out on the water. Boaters, water sport enthusiasts and others planning on being near the water will benefit greatly from this treatment.

A designer’s greatest misstep is trying to incorporate multiple popular trends into one piece, overwhelming what could have been a classic and beautiful style. The eyewear industry should take cues from Studio FB eyeglasses, a new collection that seamlessly weave multiple fashion trends of 2012 into flawless, minimalistic designer frames.
Studio FB eyewear takes on three of this season’s hottest ideas: going retro, mixing materials, and using organic materials. Each of the brand’s designer glasses have a distinct vintage inspired look, from Wayfarer style silhouettes of the eighties to sexy cat-eye shapes of the sixties.
Another trend you’ll see with eyewear companies is using multiple different materials in one frame. While most are opting for a mix of metal and plastic, Studio FB has chosen to design its frames with 70% acetate and 20% wood fibers. This interesting blend is buffed down for a chic matte finish.
Many designers in the industry are working hard to keep their processes as eco-friendly as possible, and the use of natural materials is one of the hottest trends this year. The wood fibers give the frames a beautiful and earthy vibe with a dark, handsome appeal.
Shopping for a brand new pair of designer eyeglasses can be exciting. Once you make your decision, it’s important to take proper care of your frames – you want to protect your investment as best you can. To do so, you can pick up a couple inexpensive eyewear accessories.
A microfiber cloth is a necessary addition to your designer eyewear purchase. Many people clean their lenses with their clothes or with paper towels, unfortunately, this can actually damage the surface. These materials can be abrasive and cause miniature scratches, which may not be noticeable at first but can build up over time and decrease optical precision. Microfiber cloths are extremely soft and made specifically to clean lenses. They come in many different colors and scenes and are only $5.
If you’re the type of person who misplaces things on a regular basis, La LOOP eyeglass necklaces could be the perfect solution. These aren’t your typical librarian-esque glasses holders that are attached to the hinges. They are actually fashionable necklaces that come in a variety of beaded or nylon colors to go with your every outfit. A ring at the end provides a place for your glasses to rest and ensures that you never misplace your expensive designer glasses. La LOOP accessories cost as low as $26!
We have another prestigious award winner in our selection at Vizio Optic! MYKITA eyewear has won a 2012 Red Dot Design Award for its excellent MYLON collection, a range that “redefines the borders between the worlds of fashion and sports,” according to the German brand.
The MYKITA MYLON collection features frames that are perfect for athletic activities while remaining casual enough for everyday wear. Using state-of-the-art design, the company uses a lightweight and highly durable patented material, known as Mylon, that has never before been used in the art of creating designer eyewear. This is the polyamide-based material that lent itself to winning the Red Dot Design Award, given to MYKITA for its proficiency in product design.
“Luxury sports fashion” is the tagline of the MYLON collection, which features 12 outstanding designer sunglasses made with Zeiss lenses. The anti-glare lenses offer the ultimate protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays, and are treated with a hydrophobic coating that repels water, rain, sweat, and other wet substances for optimal vision. Each style can also be fitted with polarized lenses.

One of the hottest trends this season is bold, bright colors – neons included. You’ll be seeing everything from nail polish and eyeshadow to handbags and blouses in extreme shades this spring, and you can get on board as well with a pair of eye-catching designer eyeglasses in standout hues.
Face a Face Sagan 2 eyeglasses are light, bright, and fun. The shape itself is quite classic, with a rectangular rim that flares at the tips, but the glasses come alive with this playful, traffic-stopping red. Not only is Sagan a beautifully feminine style, but in this color, you’ll be turning heads everywhere you go. What a great way to show off your fun side!
Face a Face Adore 2 eyeglasses are a little more subtle, but will still get your friends and family talking. This fabulous purple shade is accented with a complementary pink, making them the ultimate girly frames. Although similar to Sagan 2 in shape, Adore 2 features more rounded lenses that looks great on women with sharper facial features.
Face a Face Elvis 1 eyeglasses are made in a wonderful bold turquoise and red combination – a contrast that truly stands out and looks fantastic. The solid front rim is structured and rectangular, great on women with softer features, and is connected to patterned red arm pieces that slope over the ears for a comfortable fit.
Going for a bold look may be scary at first, but being able to show off your true self is a great feeling. Don’t be so shy, come on in to Vizio Optic to see how you look in a pair of bright designer glasses today!
Designer sunglasses are a coveted accessory in warm weather, and with the beautiful beginning of spring comes a fabulous new sunwear collection from MYKITA. The German brand is known for its stunning styles, seen on stars all over the world, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Brad Pitt, and Lady Gaga. Here are three new frames from the 2012 MYKITA sunglasses collection.
MYKITA Douglas sunglasses feature a lightweight metal frame with an interesting twist – the bridge that connects the gradient lenses is clear. These oversized frames have a structured rectangular shape that looks great on men. And don’t forget about the screw-less hinges – this patented technology is very convenient and makes the frames über-durable.
MYKITA Ferris sunglasses have a heavy inspiration from the ’70s, with a plastic aviator frame that features a trapezoidal double bridge. These tortoise designer sunglasses also have the screw-less hinges, but Ferris hides them underneath the acetate to keep a streamlined look.
Lastly, MYKITA Peer sunglasses, from the Lite Sun collection of MYKITA eyewear, stays a bit closer to the aviator’s roots with this thin-rimmed metal frame. Peer is available in black, pearl, glossy gold, and shiny silver, each with a choice of matching tinted lenses or clear lenses.
